On August 26, 2026, Anthropic announced an upgrade to Claude's memory system, merging the chat functionality with the memory system of Claude Cowork to enable continuous information sharing across scenarios. Information provided to Claude by users in any scenario will be synchronized and take effect across all functionalities, eliminating the need for redundant data entry across different scenarios. This update adjusts the memory writing mechanism from post-conversation summarization to real-time writing, and also introduces the ability to view, edit, and delete memory content. Regarding privacy, sensitive information such as health, ethnicity, and religion is not stored by default, though users can manually enable this feature. Government-issued IDs and social security numbers will never be stored. This feature has been enabled by default on the web, desktop, and mobile versions for Free, Pro, and Max plans.
