In the Q2 2026 earnings conference call, Martin Lau, President of Tencent, remarked that the feedback from the grayscale testing of WeChat AI, named "Xiaowei", has been overwhelmingly positive. He emphasized that AI will be instrumental in helping WeChat construct a more intelligent ecosystem and unlock substantial value. During this quarter, Tencent's revenue soared to RMB 204.79 billion, marking an 11% year-on-year increase. Its Non-IFRS operating profit reached RMB 75.64 billion, up by 9% compared to the same period last year. Capital expenditures also surged to RMB 52.78 billion, reflecting a staggering 176% year-on-year rise, primarily attributed to heightened investments in the AI sector.

WeChat AI "Xiaowei" commenced grayscale testing in June, leveraging Tencent's proprietary WeLM model and integrating DeepSeek in specific scenarios. This AI covers a wide array of high-frequency use cases, enabling users to effortlessly control various functions through simple commands. Furthermore, Tencent's Hunyuan large model underwent its Hy3 official version iteration this quarter, experiencing a remarkable surge in calls—over 68 times more than the previous generation within just one week of its launch. A more expansive Hy4 version is slated for imminent release.
