On August 14, Nikkei Asia reported that Tencent, in collaboration with Sequoia China, ZhenFund, and other partners, is set to acquire all of Meta's shares in the Chinese AI developer Manus. This acquisition values Manus at approximately $2 billion and will make Tencent its largest shareholder. The backdrop to this deal is that Meta had previously acquired Manus for $2 billion in December 2025. However, due to concerns raised during a national security review, China's National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) mandated the revocation of that transaction in April of the same year.
On August 11, Manus announced its plans to resume independent operations. Additionally, it stated that it would delete data generated by some users following Meta's acquisition, which took place on December 29, 2025. Previously, Manus had witnessed rapid growth, largely attributed to its general AI agent technology. By December 2025, its Annual Recurring Revenue (ARR) had exceeded $100 million.
