On August 13, influenced by the surge in the South Korean stock market, emerging market equities generally rose on Thursday. The recovery in global artificial intelligence (AI) trading propelled Seoul's KOSPI index into a technical bull market. Mohit Kumar, a strategist at Jefferies, stated in a report that they remain optimistic about their overweight position in the AI sector, given the strong earnings season performance and no signs of a slowdown in capital expenditures. On Thursday, the KOSPI index rose by 3.2%, with a cumulative gain of approximately 22% since its low on July 30. Memory chip manufacturers Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix, as major weighted stocks, led the gains, both rising by around 5%. Kumar also pointed out that geopolitical tensions remain a focal point for the market, and if the closure of the Strait of Hormuz persists for months rather than weeks, the market may face re-pricing.
