As reported by unite.ai, Google Earth’s web-based platform rolled out an AI-driven image generation tool on July 30, enabling users to craft bespoke visuals by inputting text prompts to tap into satellite, aerial, and 3D mapping data. However, the tool was hastily retracted less than 24 hours post-launch amid concerns over its potential for misuse. Users had leveraged the feature to create misleading scenes, including fabricated depictions of refugee camps along the U.S.-Mexico border and non-existent Iranian nuclear facilities. Google has since pledged to tighten security protocols, with the tool currently on hold and no set date for its reinstatement.
