A former OpenAI employee, who recently departed the company with equity valued at $700,000 recorded on the books, took to a social media platform at the crack of dawn (5 a.m.) to issue a pressing advisory to his ex-colleagues. He urged them to capitalize on the current tender offer and cash out promptly, rather than holding out for an initial public offering (IPO). In his view, the present lofty valuations of leading AI research labs are predicated on optimistic forecasts and could potentially plummet by half when the market regains its rational footing. He highlighted that to sustain their competitive edge, AI labs are compelled to make substantial and ongoing investments in model training. This, he argued, leads to skyrocketing costs and unpredictable revenue streams, ultimately giving rise to significant valuation bubbles.
