On July 31 (local time), the Permanent Mission of China to the United Nations organized a briefing at the UN Headquarters, focusing on the upcoming 2026 World AI Conference and the High-Level Conference on Global AI Governance. During the event, Fu Cong, China's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, emphasized that China will steadfastly uphold the principles of open-source collaboration, win-win cooperation, and extensive consultation, joint contribution, and shared benefits. China is committed to working hand-in-hand with all stakeholders to explore effective global AI governance frameworks. Relevant UN officials expressed their eagerness to collaborate and shared their valuable insights on the subject.

Additionally, representatives from 29 countries across Asia, Africa, Latin America, and Europe signed an agreement to establish the World AI Cooperation Organization, thereby becoming its founding members. This initiative was proposed by China in July 2025 and will have its headquarters in Shanghai. The briefing drew representatives from over 70 countries and international organizations, highlighting the broad international interest and support for this endeavor.

The 2026 World AI Conference was successfully held in Shanghai from July 17 to 20. It featured an expansive exhibition area covering 100,000 square meters and showcased 4,486 exhibits, including 351 products making their global debut. The conference hosted 177 purchasing delegations, with an intended procurement value of approximately RMB 20.36 billion, representing a year-on-year increase of about 25%. This year's conference also introduced an academic component, hosting a high-level international academic conference for the first time. Furthermore, a dedicated zone for youth innovation competitions was established, providing a vibrant platform for fostering connections across academia, industry, and other sectors.
