On July 31st, news emerged that Suzhou, Jiangsu Province, has pioneered a new policy across the country. According to this policy, the time that delivery riders spend waiting at red lights at intersections will be factored into the delivery timing system. Through the data interconnection between traffic management authorities and the delivery platform, the policy automatically removes invalid timing and extends the delivery deadline. This move is set to curb reckless behaviors, such as speeding and running red lights, which often stem from the time pressure exerted by the algorithm. The policy is scheduled to undergo a pilot run in Gusu District and Suzhou Industrial Park in early August, with a phased nationwide implementation to follow.
