On July 30, 2026, the Shanghai Municipal People’s Government unveiled a strategic initiative, aiming to concentrate on areas such as AI-aided diagnostic software, advanced medical imaging technologies, surgical robotics, and brain-computer interfaces. The goal is to streamline the registration process and hasten the market introduction of products that have reached clinical stages. Concurrently, the initiative encourages qualified medical institutions to undertake pilot development and regulatory filing of self-developed in vitro diagnostic reagents, particularly in response to urgent clinical demands and frontier technological advancements. This approach is designed to facilitate the transformation of these self-developed reagents into officially registered products. Furthermore, the plan emphasizes the need to intensify health economics research across the entire lifecycle of innovative medical devices and to foster the domestic manufacturing of imported medical devices.
