The German cabinet submitted a draft bill on the 29th, proposing to allow immigration officials to use AI assistance in reviewing asylum, visa, and residency permit applications to improve efficiency. The bill was approved by the cabinet due to the consistently high volume of immigration applications and insufficient government staff. According to the bill, AI can automatically compare suspicious content in applicants' statements with publicly available data online to verify information. It can also analyze concluded cases, summarize decision-making patterns, standardize processing criteria, and enhance efficiency. AI will only serve as an assistant, with legal assessments and final decisions still made by immigration officials.
