The press conference for the 2026 Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Ministerial Meeting on Digital and Artificial Intelligence was held in Chengdu. Li Lecheng, Minister of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, introduced the outcomes of the meeting: promoting universal and meaningful digital connectivity; fostering digital and AI technologies to empower economic growth; enhancing digital literacy and skills; and building a digital ecosystem enabled by investment and open source. This meeting elevated 'open source' to the APEC ministerial cooperation level for the first time, encouraging economies to support open-source practices and actively participate in international AI open-source community collaborations while respecting intellectual property rights.
