On July 16, Moonshot AI officially rolled out its Kimi K3 model, boasting a staggering 2.8 trillion parameters and marking the company’s most advanced model yet. The model surged to the top of the Frontend Code Arena global AI large model leaderboard, achieving a remarkable score of 1679. The K3 model is set to release its weights soon and has even garnered a nod of approval from Tesla CEO Elon Musk. Huang Zhenxin, the head of enterprise business at Moonshot AI, firmly refuted claims that K3 is a distilled, smaller-scale model, highlighting that its performance enhancements are the result of groundbreaking innovations in its core architecture. He also emphasized that open-source models and Chinese large models should not be unfairly labeled as cost-effective alternatives. Following the launch of K3, user demand soared beyond expectations, causing resource strains on the platform. Consequently, new user registrations are temporarily not fully open, and efforts are currently in progress to ease the pressure by enhancing model efficiency and augmenting computational capacity. Furthermore, Musk suggested that his company’s 2-trillion-parameter model might outperform K3, prompting Moonshot AI to respond on Weibo, inviting him to join the 2-trillion+ parameter club.
