On July 19, 2026, Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman reported that Apple is conducting a trial of an AI system named 'Live Notes' in some of its retail stores. This system harnesses artificial intelligence to automatically record and transcribe the dialogues between Genius Bar staff and customers. Subsequently, it generates summaries that are stored in Apple's internal customer service system. The goal of this move is to free up employees to concentrate more fully on customer service by doing away with the necessity for manual note-taking. At present, participation in this system is optional. Both employees and customers must give their consent before recording can take place. Moreover, the recordings themselves are not retained. Store managers are also barred from accessing the transcribed texts. Employees are entitled to review, edit, and amend the transcribed texts and summaries prior to saving them. Despite Apple's well-established privacy safeguards, certain employees are still apprehensive that these records might be employed for employee training or performance assessments down the line. Given that the trial is not compulsory at this stage, it is uncertain whether Apple will roll it out to additional stores or modify the way the texts are utilized in the future.
