On July 13, the world's inaugural implantable brain-computer interface (BCI) system designed for hand motor function compensation, known as NEO, was successfully implanted at Huashan Hospital, affiliated with Fudan University. The very same day, following its market approval, the first prescription for this innovative system was issued. The product had secured market approval back in March of this year. Just two days later, on July 15, concept stocks related to BCI on the A-share market witnessed a notable uptick. Industry experts are of the opinion that China's BCI sector stands at the forefront globally, possessing the potential to make significant strides by capitalizing on a comprehensive industrial chain and the advantage of a skilled engineering workforce. Nevertheless, the field continues to grapple with deficiencies in fundamental neuroscience research and the development of specialized chips. Presently, the industry is actively tackling these obstacles through policy guidance, fostering industrial clusters, and driving technological progress, with the aim of establishing a fully-fledged commercial ecosystem.
