A prototype of the inaugural custom AI chip, dubbed 'Jalapeno,' born from the collaborative efforts of OpenAI and Broadcom, has made its debut and is now undergoing rigorous testing to evaluate its proficiency in executing AI tasks. Broadcom's CEO, Hock Tan, highlighted that this chip can cut costs by roughly 50% when pitted against traditional AI graphics processing units. OpenAI intends to capitalize on this cost-efficiency to refine its hardware infrastructure and secure a competitive advantage in the market.
