On June 25, Broadcom CEO Hock Tan stated that the debut of the Jalapeño AI chip, jointly developed by OpenAI and Broadcom, reflects the trend of AI labs moving towards developing their own hardware and infrastructure. Tan said that this validates Broadcom's business model, where each leading developer of large language models will eventually design and build their own chips, computing power, and computational development because they can do it better. He added that OpenAI's full-stack strategy has enabled the chip to perform exceptionally well for its intended use.
