On June 11, 2026, Visa declared a strategic partnership with OpenAI at the San Francisco Payments Forum, incorporating its payment network into ChatGPT. This integration enables AI agents to autonomously place online orders and handle payments, subject to user approval. Visa's payment system will be thoroughly embedded within OpenAI's foundational platform, facilitating global e-commerce platforms to effortlessly accept transactions driven by AI. Looking ahead, consumers will be able to initiate a seamless AI-powered payment cycle (closed loop) by simply issuing voice commands (such as "settle the bill" or "purchase groceries"), with ChatGPT serving as the main platform for this interaction.
Jack Forestell, Visa's Chief Product and Strategy Officer, remarked that this initiative will usher digital payments into an era of intelligence. It will bolster transaction security through tokenization technology and dynamic risk management, while simultaneously minimizing instances of merchant false declines and reducing payment friction for users. The partnership also encompasses the expansion of stablecoin settlement trials and the exploration of transforming traditional deposits into programmable digital currencies.
