On June 9, Bloomberg reported that SpaceX's CEO, Elon Musk, disclosed further specifics on Monday regarding the initial iteration of the AI data center satellite slated for construction. During a 30-minute video posted on the social media platform X, Musk elaborated on SpaceX's forthcoming endeavors, encompassing the subsequent phases of the Starship rocket's development, the joint construction of a cutting-edge chip factory with Tesla, among other initiatives. He presented detailed renderings and specifications of the satellite, dubbed AI1, which boasts an expansive photovoltaic panel with a 70-meter wingspan. This panel can sustain an average computing load of 120 kilowatts, with the capability to reach a peak output of up to 150 kilowatts. SpaceX envisions setting up a constellation of roughly 1 million AI satellites to execute intricate artificial intelligence computations in Earth's orbit. Musk remarked that AI satellites are fundamentally composed of numerous solar cells, a radiator, and several laser links, rendering their design less complex than that of Starlink satellites.
