Microsoft has urgently taken down dozens of open-source project repositories on GitHub to investigate an incident where hackers infiltrated and injected malware designed to steal passwords. The affected projects primarily involve Microsoft's cloud service Azure and AI development tools, including components of AI coding applications such as Claude Code, the Gemini command-line interface, and VS Code. Microsoft spokesperson Ben Hupp confirmed that the relevant repositories have been temporarily removed during the investigation, with some code libraries restored after review.
