This move represented the largest-scale deployment of a ChatGPT application by a single institution on a global scale.
With the introduction of AI on campus, it began to assume a variety of novel roles. For instance, AI took on the role of librarians, aiding students in their research endeavors. In the career center, AI served as career guidance counselors, offering advice and support to students navigating their future paths. Even the university president was represented by digital avatars, which delivered speeches at orientation ceremonies, adding a futuristic touch to the traditional events.
However, this ambitious plan was met with fierce opposition from faculty and staff. They expressed concerns that the widespread adoption of AI would lead to job displacement, with machines taking over tasks traditionally performed by humans.
