Clive Chan, the 'Employee No. 002' in OpenAI's self-developed chip project, announced on platform X that he has left OpenAI and officially joined Anthropic this week. This news has drawn significant attention from the industry and is seen as another signal of the extension of large model competition in the AI field to the chip and computing power infrastructure layers. Chan boasts an impressive resume, having worked or interned at star companies such as OpenAI, Tesla, Google, and SpaceX, with a long-standing focus on the AI infrastructure field. He graduated from the University of Waterloo in Canada in 2021 and subsequently joined Tesla's Autopilot deep learning infrastructure team, where he spent nearly three years responsible for GPU optimization, cluster scheduling, and other tasks. In January 2024, Chan joined OpenAI to participate in the construction of its self-developed AI chip project.
