At the Build 2026 annual developer conference, Microsoft announced that it will establish Windows 11 as the preferred platform for developing and running local AI applications, rather than simply overlaying AI capabilities on the desktop system. Microsoft plans to build Windows into a 'trusted platform,' encompassing everything from AI agent runtime, operating system-level security frameworks, local AI models, native AI APIs, to hardware for developers, Linux container toolchains, and deep integration with GitHub Copilot, NVIDIA RTX Spark, and Azure.
