OpenAI's ChatGPT has surpassed 1 billion global monthly active users, becoming the fastest application to reach this milestone in history, just about three years after its launch. This achievement surpasses the growth records set by apps such as Google Maps, TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube. Meanwhile, the competition for dominance in the artificial intelligence market between Anthropic and OpenAI is intensifying. As of the second quarter, Anthropic's Claude has reached 56 million global monthly active users, with a year-on-year growth rate of approximately 640%, far exceeding ChatGPT's 62%. Data shows that in the first quarter of 2026, ChatGPT users in the United States who installed the Claude app experienced a 5% decrease in their ChatGPT usage time one month after installation, compared to the average usage time over the previous eight months. Additionally, OpenAI plans to submit an IPO application in the coming weeks.
