Apple has lodged its objections with the European Commission, taking aim at proposed regulations that would compel Google to grant rival AI services broader access to certain Android system capabilities. Apple contends that such a directive could jeopardize user privacy, system security, and overall device performance. The previous month, the European Commission put forth a set of measures designed to ensure Google’s compliance with the Digital Markets Act. These measures stipulate that Google must provide third-party AI services with more comprehensive access to the Android ecosystem. The EU's top antitrust official has argued that this would empower Android users with greater choice and control. However, Google has dismissed the move as an unwarranted intrusion into its operations. Apple, for its part, has raised concerns that the draft measures could lead to significant issues, particularly given the inherent unpredictability of AI systems. The company also criticized the European Commission for attempting to overhaul Android based on what it described as 'insufficient analysis conducted over a mere three-month period.' The EU is anticipated to reach a conclusive verdict in July regarding whether Google’s proposed adjustments align with the requirements of the act.
