Anthropic has recently and rather discreetly doubled the token cost for its Claude Code service. Previously, developers incurred a daily active cost of approximately $6, but this figure has now climbed to around $13. Claude Code, an AI-powered programming assistant, charges users based on token consumption, and this recent cost adjustment mirrors the broader upward trajectory in AI usage expenses. Last week, Anthropic stirred up discontent among users by modifying its pricing page, subsequently clarifying that the change was a test adjustment applied to only 2% of new users. The company’s growth leader also conceded that the existing subscription plans are no longer sufficient to keep pace with the current intensity of usage.
