Microsoft has declared its intention to invest 25 billion Australian dollars (equivalent to approximately $17.9 billion) by the close of 2029, aiming to solidify its foothold in the Australian artificial intelligence (AI) market. This marks Microsoft's most substantial investment in the Asia-Pacific region to date. The funds will be earmarked for expanding Australia's Azure AI supercomputing hub and cloud infrastructure, along with the implementation of associated projects. This announcement was made on the cusp of Nadella's address. At present, Microsoft and its U.S. competitors are locked in a fierce battle for the global AI user base. In light of the sluggish progress of its Copilot, Microsoft is now setting its sights on burgeoning markets like Australia. Nadella remarked that Australia possesses the potential to harness AI as a catalyst for economic expansion and societal prosperity.
