On April 16, Google announced a new feature for its conversational search experience, AI Mode: when used on Chrome desktop, clicking a search result link will display the webpage side-by-side with the AI Mode window. This move aims to help users browse related websites more easily while maintaining search context, compare details, and continue asking follow-up questions. For example, when a user searches for coffee makers, AI Mode will list recommended options. After clicking on a specific product, the corresponding e-commerce website will open side-by-side with AI Mode, allowing the user to continue asking specific questions, and AI Mode will provide answers based on both the webpage content and information from across the web. Additionally, users can incorporate content from multiple tabs, images, or files into the same search session for more efficient information integration. The feature has been launched in the United States and plans to expand to more countries and regions in the future.
