According to Google's '2025 Ad Safety Report' released on Thursday, the global volume of ads blocked last year reached a record high of 8.3 billion, a significant increase from 5.1 billion in 2024. However, the number of advertiser accounts suspended decreased notably. Google attributed this to the deeper adoption of AI models, such as Gemini, in the field of ad safety, enabling earlier and more precise identification and blocking of violating ads. In 2025, over 99% of violating ads identified by the AI system were blocked before being displayed, shifting the platform's enforcement focus from 'banning advertisers' to 'targeting' violating ads. Additionally, the misuse of generative AI led to a surge in the number of blocked ads. Google utilized the Gemini model to identify common patterns in large-scale ad campaigns, enabling the early detection and blocking of problematic ads.
