Microsoft has set its sights on developing a premier large-scale artificial intelligence model by 2027, a move poised to rival and potentially surpass the capabilities of the most potent AI tools currently offered by OpenAI and Anthropic. Mustafa Suleyman, the CEO of Microsoft AI, articulated that by the year 2027, Microsoft's AI model is expected to attain the pinnacle of sophistication in generating and responding to text, images, and audio. Despite being trained on a comparatively smaller dataset than general-purpose models, Microsoft AI has already rolled out a speech transcription model that outshines its competitors in certain benchmark evaluations.
Suleyman further elaborated on Microsoft's strategy of consolidating its computational resources. He highlighted that since last October, the company has been bolstering its computing capacity with the aid of Nvidia GB200 chips, with the ambitious goal of reaching the forefront of AI technology within the next 12 to 18 months.
