On the morning of March 31, Apple unexpectedly rolled out the Apple Intelligence (Apple AI) Beta version to a select group of iPhone users in the Chinese mainland. After users upgraded to iOS 26.4 or a later version, the original 'Siri' option was renamed to 'Apple Intelligence and Siri'. They were also given the opportunity to download an on-device model, which was approximately 9.5GB in size. This iteration boasts a range of AI capabilities, including real-time translation, visual intelligence, photo editing (specifically, object removal), writing aids, and the 'Image Playground' feature. Nevertheless, certain functions remained inactive, and the GPT extension was temporarily out of service. Apple clarified that a software glitch had allowed Apple Intelligence to be briefly downloaded and activated on devices in China, but the issue has since been rectified. The official release date for the Chinese mainland version is contingent upon receiving regulatory clearance.
