Despite enjoying an initial surge in popularity, the app’s appeal swiftly faded, leading to daily financial setbacks of around $1 million and a substantial drain on AI chip computational resources. As OpenAI was gearing up for an initial public offering (IPO), the decision to cease operations of Sora came as a surprise to its collaborator, Disney.
