On Tuesday evening local time, the U.S. Department of Defense stated that artificial intelligence company Anthropic's establishment of 'red lines' for the use of its technology poses an 'unacceptable national security risk.' This marks the Defense Department's first formal response to the lawsuit challenging Anthropic's designation as a 'supply chain risk.' Earlier, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth designated Anthropic as a 'supply chain risk' entity last month, prompting Anthropic to subsequently petition the court to temporarily prohibit the Defense Department from enforcing this designation.
