At the 2026 sessions of the National People's Congress (NPC) and the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), NPC deputy Li Anrui directed attention to the management of online rumors in the age of AI. Drawing from his personal experience of browsing short videos and referencing the 2025 Hangzhou tap water 'sewage' rumor incident, he highlighted how AI has facilitated the creation and spread of misinformation, presenting fresh challenges for governance. The disarray caused by AI-generated information has reached a consensus across various sectors. Both the relevant national planning outlines and government work reports underscore the need for enhanced AI governance. To foster a transparent and healthy online environment, Li Anrui proposed three key measures: First, establish an official 'anti-counterfeiting verification platform' for information; second, rigorously prevent technological fraud and tighten the regulation of generative AI; third, hold platforms and self-media accountable, ensuring that algorithms prioritize the dissemination of officially verified information.
