On Tuesday, Microsoft voiced its support for Anthropic, petitioning the court to grant a temporary restraining order that would bar the U.S. Department of Defense from designating Anthropic as a supply chain risk entity. Microsoft articulated that such an action was crucial for ensuring a seamless transition and averting disruptions to the sophisticated artificial intelligence systems currently employed by the U.S. military. Such disruptions, Microsoft warned, could potentially have adverse effects on U.S. military personnel. Earlier, the U.S. Department of Defense had prohibited the utilization of Anthropic's technology and classified it as a supply chain risk, mandating defense suppliers and contractors to attest that they refrain from using its models. On Monday, Anthropic initiated legal proceedings against the Trump administration, asserting that its actions were both 'unprecedented and unlawful,' resulting in irreparable damage and endangering contracts valued at hundreds of millions of dollars.
