On February 15 local time, Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, stated that India has 100 million weekly active users of ChatGPT, making it the second-largest market after the United States and one of the most important global markets for OpenAI. OpenAI will participate in the five-day 'India AI Impact Summit' in New Delhi. With its vast young population and over 1 billion internet users, India has become a crucial market for global AI companies. OpenAI plans to establish an office in New Delhi by August 2025, launch a low-cost version of ChatGPT, and offer one year of free usage. Students are a key driving force behind the growth of ChatGPT in India, and the country has advantages in increasing AI adoption. However, the main challenge for AI companies in India is how to convert the massive user base into actual economic gains. Despite the Indian government launching relevant initiatives, achieving commercialization and large-scale implementation of AI technology still faces numerous complex issues. Altman warned that the economic benefits of AI may be concentrated among a few groups. To address this, OpenAI plans to strengthen cooperation with the Indian government and announce new partnership initiatives.
