eBay recently notified users that starting from February 20, 2026, its user agreement will explicitly prohibit chatbots and AI agents from engaging in 'agent-based shopping' on the platform. This includes behaviors such as placing orders and checking out during auctions and shopping processes through automated programs. The updated agreement will more specifically modify the 'Automated Access to Services' clause and directly prohibit the use of automated tools that leverage AI, large language models, and other technologies to place orders without human intervention in the anti-scraping clause. Any AI-based entity wishing to conduct activities on eBay must obtain explicit prior authorization.
