In January 2026, Microsoft delivered updates for the Notepad and Paint applications to users in the Windows 11 Canary and Dev channels. The Notepad app now offers support for Markdown formatting, incorporates a welcome screen, and has enhanced the streaming display of AI-generated text to ensure quicker responses. Meanwhile, the Paint app introduces an AI-powered coloring book feature, which generates pages based on textual prompts, and also includes a new fill tolerance slider. It's important to note that all AI features necessitate a Microsoft account login, and currently, the Paint AI features are exclusively compatible with Copilot+ PC devices.
