Per Bloomberg's report, Apple is embarking on an extensive revamp of Siri, transforming it into a state-of-the-art chatbot service. This move aims to position Siri as a formidable competitor against leading AI conversational systems, including Anthropic's Claude, Google's Gemini, and OpenAI's ChatGPT. Initially, Apple had not considered developing such a product. However, the swift and widespread adoption of these AI services compelled Apple's senior executives to reassess their approach, culminating in a substantial enhancement of Siri.
The new chatbot, internally referred to as "Campos," will be seamlessly integrated across iPhone, iPad, and Mac platforms, superseding the existing Siri interface. Users will have the option to initiate the enhanced service either through voice commands or by holding down the side button on their devices. Its functionalities will significantly outperform the current iteration, enabling uninterrupted, multi-turn dialogues for a user experience that closely mirrors those of ChatGPT or Google Gemini.
Apple is slated to preview this innovative service at its Worldwide Developers Conference in June, with a formal launch anticipated in September. From a technical standpoint, Campos will leverage Apple's proprietary interface, yet its foundational model will predominantly draw upon AI models tailored by Google's Gemini team. Furthermore, Apple is exploring the possibility of hosting the chatbot directly on Google's cloud infrastructure and incorporating TPU chip technology.
