On Wednesday, news emerged that OpenAI's CEO, Altman, recently engaged in discussions with prominent Middle Eastern investors. These talks are aimed at laying the groundwork for a substantial new financing round, with the funding target set at a minimum of $50 billion. Currently, OpenAI is valued in the range of approximately $750 billion to $830 billion. However, it's important to note that these negotiations are still in their nascent stages, and the final funding amount could undergo revisions.
In a prior move, OpenAI had approached Amazon with the intention of securing an additional $10 billion in funding. Nevertheless, Amazon chose to remain tight - lipped and declined to provide any comments on the matter.
Over the past few years, OpenAI has successfully raised billions of dollars in capital. Despite the fact that it has not yet achieved profitability, the company has made a firm commitment to invest over $1.4 trillion in AI infrastructure over the course of the next several years.
Several leading AI developers are also actively seeking financial support from Middle Eastern investors. OpenAI itself has a track record of attracting investment from the region, having previously received funding from MGX. Moreover, it has entered into a partnership with G42 to construct data centers.
At present, OpenAI is contending with intense competition from rivals such as Google and Anthropic. Anthropic, in particular, is also in the process of negotiating a new financing round, with its valuation estimated at around $350 billion.
Market analysts predict that OpenAI's valuation could soar to $500 billion by autumn 2025. However, it's crucial to bear in mind that the market is inherently fraught with risks, and investors are advised to exercise due caution when making investment decisions.
