As per an official announcement from OpenAI, come January 2026, the company will initiate small-scale advertising trials targeting free users of ChatGPT as well as Go subscribers (who subscribe at a rate of $8 per month) within the United States. These advertisements will be strategically positioned at the conclusion of conversations centered around non-sensitive subjects. Each ad will be distinctly marked as sponsored content and will be presented in a manner that is separate and distinct from the answer content provided by ChatGPT.
