In recent years, AI technology has developed rapidly, leading to a surge in electricity demand for data centers. On January 16, news emerged that the U.S. government and multiple states in the Northeast have requested the largest power grid, PJM, to hold emergency power auctions, making tech giants shoulder the soaring electricity costs. In the auction, tech companies can bid for 15-year power generation contracts for newly built power plants. The unique aspect of this move is that only tech companies building AI data centers are eligible to participate.
