At the 10th-anniversary forum of Kaishan College in Hong Kong, Zhang Wenhong adopted a cautious stance regarding the application of artificial intelligence (AI) in the medical sector. He was against the immediate incorporation of AI systems into the routine diagnostic and treatment procedures in hospitals. Drawing on his own experiences, he highlighted the necessity of leveraging professional expertise to rectify errors made by AI.
Zhang Wenhong believes that if doctors start relying too heavily on AI right from their internship days, they will struggle to determine whether the AI's diagnoses are correct or not. He stressed that young doctors require systematic training to acquire the proficiency to assess the accuracy of AI-generated diagnoses and to handle complex medical cases. Nevertheless, he also recognized the valuable role that AI can play in providing assistance in medical work.
