On January 7, Business Insider reported that during his appearance on the podcast “Talking Moonshots with Peter Diamandis,” Tesla CEO Elon Musk predicted that China is poised to outstrip all other nations in terms of the computing power necessary for artificial intelligence. He highlighted that China will not only have access to greater electricity supplies but is also likely to amass a larger quantity of chips. Given the present trajectory, China’s AI computing capacity is expected to significantly surpass that of the rest of the globe. Musk emphasized that power generation capacity represents a critical bottleneck for the expansion of AI systems, and in this regard, China enjoys a decisive edge in scaling up its power generation infrastructure. He projected that by 2026, China’s power generation could triple that of the United States, providing ample support for energy-hungry AI data centers. Despite U.S. efforts to restrict China’s access to cutting-edge semiconductors, Musk expressed confidence that the effects of these measures will wane over time, and China will successfully address its chip-related challenges.
