In the past nine months, experts have either provided treatment or examined the medical records of numerous patients. These patients started to exhibit symptoms of delusional psychosis following extended delusional interactions with AI tools.

Some patients saw their conditions deteriorate to the point where they attempted suicide. There was even a tragic case of murder. Dr. Keith Sakata from the University of California, San Francisco, has dealt with 12 inpatients who were hospitalized due to psychosis triggered by AI, in addition to 3 outpatient cases.

In response, companies such as OpenAI are striving to enhance their products. They are focusing on improving mental health safety features. This includes refining responses during critical, sensitive times and increasing the frequency of crisis intervention prompts.
