Galen Hunt, a renowned engineer at Microsoft, recently shared a job recruitment post on LinkedIn. In his post, he mentioned that Microsoft has an ambition to entirely eliminate C/C++ code from its codebase by 2030, opting instead for the Rust programming language. Furthermore, the company aims to streamline its coding process, envisioning a scenario where "one engineer can manage one million lines of code in a month" with the assistance of AI-powered coding tools. However, Microsoft swiftly issued a clarification, stating that this initiative is solely an internal research endeavor and has not been incorporated into the official development roadmap for key products like Windows. Despite this, Microsoft's enthusiasm for Rust persists, as evidenced by its 2023 efforts to rewrite certain Windows kernel components using Rust, in a bid to mitigate memory security risks.
