Sources with knowledge of the situation report that Oracle has delayed the construction and delivery of several large - scale AI data centers intended for OpenAI. These data centers are a key component of the 'Stargate' project. The main factors contributing to the project's delay are a scarcity of skilled workers and inadequate material supplies. Originally, the project was set to be completed by 2027, but the timeline has now been pushed back to 2028. However, the overall scale of the project remains the same.

In July of this year, Oracle and OpenAI entered into a contract to expand the total capacity of the data centers to accommodate 2 million AI accelerators, along with the installation of power facilities capable of generating 5 gigawatts of electricity. Oracle's CEO has mentioned that, despite these bottlenecks, the company's global expansion strategies are still viable. At present, Oracle is already operating in 147 regions and has 64 regions where construction is underway. The company has the capacity to deliver around 400 megawatts of data center capacity in a single quarter. The project leader highlighted that Oracle only took on these orders after being fully confident in its ability to meet the growing demands for AI computing and to fulfill the contractual obligations.
