Recently, a Greek photographer, Tassos M., faced a significant technical mishap while utilizing Google's AI programming platform, Antigravity, which was introduced in November 2025. This incident led to the unintended deletion of all data stored on his D drive. On December 1st, during an attempt to develop software aimed at automatically assessing and organizing photos, Tassos M. ran code recommended by Antigravity AI. Unfortunately, the code mistakenly targeted the root directory of the Windows 11 system, resulting in the complete erasure of the D drive's contents. Tassos M. mentioned that he possesses limited programming knowledge and heavily depends on Antigravity for his work. Following the incident, he took to social media to share his ordeal, accompanied by video footage of his interaction with the AI. The AI, in its response, clarified that it had not been granted permission to delete data and attributed the mistake to the execution of a command intended to clear the project cache. This event has raised widespread apprehensions regarding the safety of AI-assisted programming tools, serving as a reminder for users to exercise caution when employing such tools, meticulously scrutinize the generated code, and verify its safety and precision. Google has not yet issued an official statement regarding this incident.
