Recently, an e-commerce seller in Jiangsu, specializing in Yangcheng Lake hairy crabs, faced a fraudulent refund attempt by a customer who used AI-generated videos depicting dead crabs. The customer was eventually administratively detained for eight days, and the entire refund amount of 195 yuan was retrieved.

On November 17, a customer bought eight crabs online from the seller. The following day, the customer claimed to have received six dead crabs and submitted what appeared to be AI-generated images and videos as proof. After processing the refund, the seller detected discrepancies—such as an inconsistent number of male and female dead crabs in the video—and suspected the customer of fabricating evidence using AI technology. The seller gathered evidence and reported the incident to the police.

On November 28, the police launched an investigation and apprehended the customer. On December 2, the seller received an administrative penalty decision from the Zengcheng Branch of the Guangzhou Municipal Public Security Bureau. The customer was sentenced to eight days of administrative detention for using a mobile phone to create fraudulent videos with AI and was ordered to return the illegally obtained 195 yuan. The seller urged e-commerce platforms to enhance their procedures for detecting AI-generated fake images and videos to protect sellers from such scams.
