On December 3rd, Beijing time, under the competitive pressure exerted by OpenAI, Google made an announcement: it is currently testing a new function that merges AI Overviews with AI Mode in search. When users conduct a search, they will first encounter AI-generated summaries (AI Overviews) displayed at the top of Google's search results. Subsequently, they can utilize a conversational interface (AI Mode) to pose follow-up questions, thereby gaining a more in-depth understanding of the topic at hand. This innovative feature is designed to provide a seamless and uninterrupted experience. It enables users to engage in interactive, back-and-forth dialogues directly with Google's advanced large model, Gemini, right on the search results page, eliminating the need to navigate to other pages. Previously, users who wished to delve deeper into a particular topic were required to switch to a separate AI Mode tab. However, this limitation has now been eliminated. Users can now first review the AI Overviews and then enhance their inquiries through conversation. At present, this testing feature is accessible to users around the globe, but it is exclusively supported on mobile devices.
