On November 20 (local time), Hon Hai Group, the parent company of Foxconn, declared a strategic partnership with OpenAI, a prominent U.S. artificial intelligence firm. The collaboration aims to jointly drive forward the design of cutting-edge AI infrastructure hardware and lay the groundwork for its manufacturing in the United States. Under the terms of the agreement, Hon Hai will take charge of designing and producing data center racks, components, and other AI-related hardware. Meanwhile, OpenAI will contribute its in-depth understanding of the evolving hardware requirements within the AI sector, serving as a valuable reference for Hon Hai's design and development endeavors. While the initial agreement does not encompass any procurement commitments or financial obligations, OpenAI has been granted priority evaluation rights and the option to engage in subsequent procurement activities. Hon Hai intends to manufacture data center components, such as cables, power systems, and networking equipment, in its U.S. facilities, with the goal of bolstering the supply chain.
